Amish in pop culture–German edition

Amish appear fleetingly in the german crime drama “Tatort”.

The coroner, Dr. Boerne has some distant relatives from Pennsylvania–Amish–who come for a visit and comic relief in the final scene. In the screenshot below, they obligingly mug for a photo (of all things) with Boerne’s marijuana-fueled computer guru.

The episode “3x Schwarzer Kater” takes place in Muenster–the city taken over by radical anabaptists in the 1530s–an epoch referred to when a long-dead skeleton is unearthed during routine road work as the show opens.

At the end, when the villain realizes the game is over, he stands up in front of an onrushing train to take his own life.  Police detective Thiel fires once at his thigh, toppling him over and off the tracks.  Not exactly a Dirk Willems moment, but this, Thiel’s only gunshot of the episode, saves the life of his enemy.
